AS THE SUMMER DRAWS TO A CLOSE AND THE WET AND WINDY WEATHER HAS MADE A RETURN, NOW IS THE PERFECT TIME TO CURL UP WITH A GOOD BOOK!
This week's FIVER FRIDAY is not a book however, but a card game about ranking random stuff…
WHAT'S THE BEST THING? is a co-op ranking game suitable for two or more players aged 10+. Perfect for those wet and windy weekends which seem to be on the way.
Normally priced at £13 but available this weekend for just £5 (plus £4 P&P if required)

There's still plenty of time to get your tickets for THE BIG BACK TO SCHOOL BOOK QUIZ taking place on Wednesday 9th September from 7pm.
Tickets are £10 each and include entry to the quiz, a welcome drink and goody bag.
Grab an individual ticket or a team ticket for up to 4 people for some mid-week fun once the kids are back to school.

A few people have asked about our book clubs recently so here's a little reminder for anyone looking to join:
We currently have four book clubs running:
Afternoon Book Club - meets once a month in the shop, hosted by local author Tony Harrison. Usually held on a Tuesday or Thursday afternoon at 2pm.
Monthly Book Club - meets once a month in the shop, usually the third Wednesday of the month at 7pm for a 7.15pm start, repeated the morning after at 10.30am. Hosted by yours truly we read a recently published paperback over drinks.
Slow Readers Club - meets once every three months in the shop for those of you who fancy joining a book club but can't necessarily commit every month.
Kids Book Club - meets the last Thursday of the month at 4pm in the shop. This is a relaxed environment for readers of all abilities aged 7-11. Parents must remain in the shop during this book club.

Some of you may have seen my review for THE INFINITE SADNESS OF SMALL APPLIANCES on Facebook and Instagram, but I love it so much I think it's worth repeating!
A short read weighing in at less than 300 pages it's perfect for the inevitable slide towards autumn.
Prepare to have your heartstrings pulled as we follow Scout, a plucky little vacuum cleaner determined to protect her aging owner Harold from the control of The Grid.
A thought-provoking yet beautiful exploration of love, grief and the consequences of AI which combines the dystopian drama of 1984 with the quirky joy of the sentient appliances in Beauty and the Beast and the emotional trauma of the Pixar film UP.
I described the book as a cosy dystopia and the author seems to agree with me!
