PERHAPS UNSURPRISINGLY IT'S BEEN A PRETTY QUIET WEEK IN THE SHOP. I HOPE YOU'VE ALL MANAGED TO STAY COOL AND FOUND WAYS TO ESCAPE THE HEAT.

IN POSITIVE NEWS I'VE BEEN ENOYING THE AIR CON IN THE SHOP AND FINALLY GETTING THROUGH SOME EMAILS!

Our Fiver Friday offer this week is A MAGIC DEEP & DROWNING by Hester Fox, a reimagining of The Little Mermaid set in the Dutch Golden Age. Historical fantasy, both sinister and enchanting, this is perfect for fans of Jesse Burton’s The Miniaturist and Leigh Bardugo’s The Familiar.

Copies are £5 each (plus £4 postage if required) compared to the RRP of £10.99. Simply reply to this email if you'd like to reserve a copy.

It was great to wrap up our Independent Bookshop Week celebrations with events with local authors. On Friday I joined Nicholas Royle at The Bubble Room in Stanley Square, Sale to chat about his latest book FINDERS, KEEPERS: THE SECRET LIFE OF SECOND HAND BOOKS and on Saturday we welcomed Daniel Williamson into the shop to chat to customers about his Manchester United book IF I HADN'T SEEN SUCH RICHES.

Signed copies of both books are available in the shop.

Jon and I were on the road (and the tram!) in the heat this week attending publisher events with Vintage, Penguin Random House and Fox & Ink Books in Preston.

It was great to meet up with authors, publishers and fellow booksellers to discuss recent and upcoming releases. It's strange to be thinking about Christmas on one of the hottest days of the year but I'm particularly excited about the upcoming Book Advent Calendar from Penguin Random House…more information coming soon!

I'm delighted to welcome Rob Parker back to the shop to chat about his newest book FORBIDDEN WATERS. Often described as ‘the nicest guy in publishing’ Rob's latest release about a serial killer on the loose is perfect for fans of Elly Griffiths, Peter James and Ann Cleeves. We've managed to obtain early paperback copies for the event (the official publication date is 16th July) so make sure you grab your ticket today!

Rob will be chatting with Steven Kedie who officially holds the title of ‘author who lives closest to the shop'!

Copies of his novel RUNNING AND JUMPING will also be available on the night.

Jon is busy working behind the scenes on our new and improved website so make sure you're following our social media channels (@bforbutterflybooks) for more information when this goes live.

Hopefully it will be easier to navigate with a less glitchy checkout experience but any feedback is gratefully appreciated.

That's it for this week.

Hopefully next week will see a return to more normal temperatures and more of you visiting the shop.

Until then…

Michelle - B For Butterfly Books
